The assets of the region

De Madonna is a small hamlet located in the municipality of Langemark-Poelkapelle.

This is a rural municipality with just over 8,000 inhabitants. Our holiday home is a stone’s throw from Ypres (13km), Diksmuide (13km) and Roeselare (19km). There are walking and cycling routes nearby. Depending on what you are looking for, here are some suggestions.

Explore the surrounding countryside

Madonna’s surroundings are peaceful and rural, with many quiet roads and paths, perfect for a walk or bike ride.

The Westhoek has many beautiful forests and nature reserves, including the Vrijbos (Houthulst), De Blankaart (Woumen), Ijzerboomgaard (Dixmude), Kasteelpark (Zonnebeke), De Vesten (Ypres), De Palingbeek (Ypres), …

Numerous hiking and cycling routes are available in the vacation home.

Dive into history

The Madonna is located in the heart of the “Flanders Fields. Langemark-Poelkapelle suffered a great deal during the First World War. It was right on the front line for four years and was therefore totally wiped off the map.  There are many battlefields, cemeteries and memorials in the area that are worth visiting.

Tip: Discover these historical monuments on a scooter/vespa. At 4 km from our house there is the possibility to rent one (‘t oud gemeentehuis Poelkapelle)

Belgium Coastline

Belgium has a coastline about 67 km long, stretching from the Dutch border in the north to the French border in the south. The Belgian coast is known for its sandy beaches, dunes and seaside resorts.
